The first generation of Mobile Broadband services is being rolled out beginning in 2006 by 3G mobile operators using 1xEVDO and UMTS/HSDPA technologies. With an initial portfolio of business and consumer mobile entertainment applications, these carriers are developing the first business case for Mobile Broadband Services and Applications. The second generation of Mobile Broadband based on WiMAX technologies is being tested in Korea under the "WiBro initiative."  The success of second generation Mobile Broadband networks will ultimately rest on the unique applications and services that service providers will be able to deliver to end users. The Mobile Broadband Executive Summit will explore the business case for mobile broadband services and applications and the fundamental impact that these applications are likely to have on business and society.

He is currently leading Yankee Group’s development of cross disciplinary practices in such areas as wireless broadband, digital divide, municipal networking, mobile entertainment, voice over IP and IP video.

Philip Marshall, VP Wireless/Mobile Technologies and Wireless/Mobile Asia-Pacific Research and Consulting Practices, Yankee Group

In this role, Dr. Marshall manages a team of analysts that investigate market and service opportunities, and technology trends for existing and future wireless mobile systems.   Prior to joining the Yankee Group, Dr. Marshall spent many years working in various engineering operations, software design, research and strategic planning roles in New Zealand, Mexico, Indonesia and Thailand for Verizon International (previously Bell Atlantic International Wireless) and Telecom New Zealand. In addition, Dr. Marshall founded a software company specializing in the development of database applications and was an electrical engineer at BHP New Zealand Steel before he attended graduate school.
